For example, when you ride a roller coaster, it turns potential energy (which is stored energy) into kinetic energy (which is moving energy) when it goes down. Then, as it goes up, that moving energy changes back into stored energy.

Wind turbines work in a similar way, but instead of using gravity, they use the wind.

How Wind Turbines Work

Wind turbines take the moving energy from the wind and turn it into electrical energy. Here’s how they do this:

  1. Capturing Wind Energy: When it’s windy, the air has energy. The blades of the turbine are made to catch this wind energy very well.
