How Can I Adjust My Baking Techniques to Fix Common Cake Issues?

Fixing Common Cake Problems in Baking

  1. Sinking:

    • If your cake sinks, it might be because you mixed it too much. Just mix until everything is blended together.
    • Make sure your oven is warm before baking. Cooking at 350°F helps the cake rise properly.
  2. Dryness:

    • When you check if the cake is done, use a wooden toothpick. A few crumbs should stick to it, but it shouldn’t be totally clean.
    • You can make the cake more moist by adding 10% more liquid. Adding one extra egg can also help make it soft and tasty.
  3. Uneven Baking:

    • Turn your cakes around in the oven halfway through baking. This helps the heat reach all parts of the cake better.
    • Use an oven thermometer. Sometimes ovens can be very different from what the dial says—usually by 10 to 50 degrees.
