Understanding mass and weight is really important when you’re trying to solve physics problems.

Mass vs. Weight

  • Mass: This is how much stuff is in an object. We usually measure it in kilograms (kg).

  • Weight: This is how heavy that mass feels because of gravity. It is measured in newtons (N). You can find weight using this formula:

    Weight = Mass × g

    Here, "g" stands for gravity’s pull, which is about 9.81 meters per second squared (m/s²) on Earth.

Example:

If you have a rock that weighs 5 kg, you can find its weight like this:
5 kg × 9.81 m/s² ≈ 49.05 N.

By understanding mass and weight, you’ll feel more sure when tackling force and motion problems!
