Factoring

After you spot a difference of squares, factoring it is easy. You can use the formula:

$$a^2 - b^2 = (a - b)(a + b)$$

Here are the examples:

• For $x^2 - 16$, it factors to $(x - 4)(x + 4)$.
• For $9y^2 - 1$, it factors to $(3y - 1)(3y + 1)$.
