  1. Types of Chemical Reactions:

    • Synthesis Reactions: This is when two or more ingredients (reactants) come together to make one new thing (product).

      • Example: If you mix A and B, you get AB.
    • Decomposition Reactions: This happens when one single thing (compound) breaks apart into two or more new things.

      • Example: If you have AB, it can break down into A and B.
    • Single Replacement Reactions: Here, one element swaps places with another in a compound.

      • Example: If A combines with BC, A can replace B and you get AC and B.
    • Double Replacement Reactions: In this type, two compounds trade parts with each other.

      • Example: If AB and CD mix, they swap and create AD and CB.
  2. Balancing Chemical Equations:

    • It’s super important to keep the number of atoms the same before and after a chemical reaction. This follows the Law of Conservation of Mass.
    • For example, in the reaction 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O, you have 4 Hydrogen atoms and 2 Oxygen atoms on each side.
  3. Statistics:

    • About 95% of all the known chemical reactions fit into one of these categories.
    • Balancing equations is really important because it helps us make accurate calculations. This way, we can predict how much product will be made in a reaction.
