Cultural movements show up clearly in popular movies, but figuring this out isn’t always easy.

1. Making Money vs. True Representation:

   • Movie studios often put making money first. They change real cultural stories to make them more appealing to a wide audience. This focus on profit can lead to movies that promote stereotypes instead of showing real and complex characters.

2. Ignoring Important History:

   • Many films skip over big social issues and instead focus on distraction and escape. For example, in the 1990s, a lot of top films talked about being independent, but they didn’t look at how that idea affected society.

3. Struggles with Diversity and Inclusion:

   • Although there has been some progress with more diverse stories, the film industry still struggles to represent everyone. Many of the biggest movies still mainly tell stories about white men.

To fix these problems, we can encourage greater responsibility in storytelling. Filmmakers and studios should focus on being sensitive to different cultures and include real voices.
