1. Getting Memory:

   • When a program needs memory to run, the operating system (OS) gives it virtual pages.
   • For example, if an app needs 10 MB of memory, the OS finds the right physical memory pages for it.

2. Giving Back Memory:

   • When the app is done using that memory, it tells the OS.
   • The OS then updates the page table to show those pages are now free.
   • Sometimes, it even combines little empty spaces in memory to create larger ones.
