Seasonal changes have a big impact on how much sunlight and shade your garden gets.

Spring and Summer:
During these times, the days are longer. You can enjoy up to 15 hours of sunlight! Many flowering plants love this and need about 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight every day to grow well.

Fall and Winter:
As the seasons change, the days get shorter. You’ll have around 9 to 10 hours of sunlight during these months. Some plants, known as perennials, might start to sleep or need more shade.

Light Exposure Basics:

  • Full sun: 6 or more hours a day
  • Partial sun: 4 to 6 hours a day
  • Shade: 2 to 4 hours a day
