How Does Codominance Challenge Traditional Views of Genetic Inheritance?

Codominance is a cool twist on how traits are passed down in genetics.

It shows us that sometimes, two different versions of a trait can show up together in what we see, instead of just one being stronger than the other.

Here are some examples of codominance:

  • ABO Blood Type: When someone has both the A and B alleles, they have blood type AB. This happens because A and B are equal and show up together.

  • Flower Color in Snapdragons: Usually, if red and white snapdragon flowers breed, their babies might be pink. This is called incomplete dominance. But with codominance, red and white can both be seen on the same flower!

So, codominance helps us understand that genetics isn’t just about one trait being the boss over another. It’s a bit more complicated than that!
