The carbon cycle is really important for our climate and ecosystems. Here’s how it works:

  1. Carbon Storage & Release: Plants take in carbon dioxide (CO₂) while making their food through a process called photosynthesis. This helps lower greenhouse gases in the air. But when we cut down trees or burn fossil fuels like coal and oil, it releases the carbon that was stored, making CO₂ levels go up.

  2. Impact on Temperature: When there is more CO₂ in the air, it leads to global warming. This change in temperature affects our weather and the homes of many plants and animals.

  3. Ecosystem Balance: Changes in carbon levels can mess up food chains. For example, if plants grow differently, it affects the animals that eat them, and that can impact the animals that eat those herbivores.

In short, the carbon cycle is key for keeping our climate stable and our ecosystems healthy!
