How Does the Depth of Scoring Impact the Crust of the Bread?

The way you score your bread can really change the crust! Here’s what happens with different cuts:

  • Shallow Cuts: These make the bread expand a little bit, which results in a softer crust.
  • Medium Cuts: These let the bread rise just right, giving you a nice crunchy outside.
  • Deep Cuts: These create a bigger bloom, leading to a thicker and chewier crust.

From what I’ve seen, cutting too deep can sometimes make the loaf fall apart. So, it takes some practice to find the perfect depth!
