In What Ways Did Militarism Influence the Events Leading to World War I?

Militarism played a big role in the events that led to World War I in a few important ways:

  1. Arms Race: From 1870 to 1914, countries in Europe spent a lot more on their militaries. In fact, their spending went up by more than 300%.

  2. Military Planning: Germany created a plan called the Schlieffen Plan, and France had Plan XVII. These plans were made to get their countries ready to quickly move their armies, which added to the rising tensions between nations.

  3. Influence on Diplomacy: Many countries believed that military actions were the best way to solve problems. This thinking made international relationships worse and led to important alliances like the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente.

In short, militarism created an environment where going to war seemed unavoidable.
