What Are the Core Characteristics of Autocratic Leadership?

Understanding Autocratic Leadership

Autocratic leadership is a style where a clear leader makes most, if not all, the decisions. Here’s what you need to know about it:

  1. Control Over Decisions: The leader has all the power to decide what happens. Team members don’t really get to share their ideas or suggestions.

  2. Close Watching: Leaders keep a close eye on what everyone is doing. This can help things get done quickly, but it might make it hard for people to be creative.

  3. Clear Directions: Instructions are very straightforward. For example, a leader might say, “Finish this task by 5 PM.” This leaves little room for confusion.

While this type of leadership can work well in emergencies, using it too much can make people unhappy and less motivated.
