What Are the Environmental Consequences of Expanding Urban Areas?

As cities grow and expand, they can cause some big problems for the environment. Here’s what I’ve seen:

  1. Loss of Green Spaces: When cities get bigger, parks and natural areas often get turned into buildings. This means less space for plants and animals to live.

  2. Air Pollution: With more cars and factories, there are more gases released into the air. This can lead to smog, which is not good for our health.

  3. Waste Management: More people means more trash. It becomes harder to recycle waste and keep things clean.

  4. Water Runoff: When there are more roads and surfaces that don’t soak up water, it can cause flooding. This also makes the water dirty.

In short, if we don't take care of how our cities grow, the environment can really suffer!
