Understanding Mean, Median, and Mode

When we look at numbers, we can find different ways to describe them. Three common ways are mean, median, and mode. Let’s break each one down:

  1. Mean:

    • To find the mean, you add up all the numbers and then divide by how many numbers there are.
    • So, it’s like this:
      Add all the numbers together.
      Then, take that total and divide it by the number of numbers you added.
  2. Median:

    • The median is the middle number in a list of numbers that have been arranged in order.
    • If there’s an odd number of values, the median is the number right in the middle.
    • If there’s an even number of values, the median is the average of the two numbers in the middle.
  3. Mode:

    • The mode is the number that appears the most often in a set of numbers.
    • Sometimes, there can be just one mode, or there can be multiple modes.
    • If no number repeats, then there is no mode at all.

These three ways help us understand how data is spread out and what it looks like. They each give us different insights about the numbers we’re working with!
