What Common Mistakes Should You Avoid When Grilling?

Grilling may look simple, but if you’re not careful, it can be tricky. Over the years, I've discovered some common mistakes to avoid, and they can really help!

1. Not Preheating the Grill

This is a big mistake! If you skip this step, your food might cook unevenly. Always preheat your grill for at least 15 to 20 minutes. This way, you get those pretty grill marks and keep the flavors locked in.

2. Flipping Too Soon

Be patient! If you flip your meat too often, it won’t cook properly. Let it stay on one side for a bit before turning it over. A good rule to follow is about 4 or 5 minutes on one side before you check it.

3. Crowding the Grill

It can be tempting to put too much food on the grill at once, but that can cause steaming instead of grilling. Make sure to leave space between each item so air can flow around.

4. Ignoring Carryover Cooking

Keep in mind that food will keep cooking even after you take it off the grill! So, if you want a perfect medium-rare steak, take it off when it’s a little less cooked than you want.

5. Skipping the Resting Time

Give your grilled food a few minutes to rest before cutting into it. This allows the juices to spread out, making each bite much tastier.

Avoid these mistakes, and you’ll be grilling like a pro in no time!
