    • Kinetic energy: This is the energy of things that are moving.

    When something is moving, like a ball rolling on the ground, it has kinetic energy. We can figure out how much kinetic energy it has using a simple formula:

    • Kinetic Energy = 1/2 × mass × (speed × speed) Here, "mass" is how heavy the object is, and "speed" is how fast it's going.
  • Potential Energy:
    A still object, like a book sitting on a shelf, has potential energy. If the book falls, that stored energy changes into kinetic energy, which is energy in motion.
