What Practices Can Help You Identify and Live Your Core Values Daily?

Discovering and Living Your Core Values

Figuring out what really matters to you and living by those values every day might seem hard, but it can also be super rewarding! Based on my experiences, I've found some helpful habits to keep me in touch with my core values. Here’s how I do it:

1. Reflect on Yourself

Taking time to think about your feelings is very important. I set aside a few minutes each week to ask myself some simple questions, like:

  • What made me really happy this week?
  • When did I feel upset or off?
  • Are my daily choices matching my core beliefs?

Writing in a journal helps me with this. I write down my thoughts and feelings, which helps me understand what I value the most.

2. Make a List of Your Values

Creating a list of my top five core values has changed everything for me. I wrote them down clearly, like:

  • Honesty
  • Connection
  • Growth
  • Adventure
  • Kindness

I keep this list in an obvious place, like on a sticky note on my bathroom mirror. It reminds me to check in with my values every day.

3. Set Goals with Purpose

Once I knew my values, I made goals that matched them. For example, if growing as a person is important to me, I set a goal to learn something new each month. This could be joining a workshop, a book club, or a creative project. This way, I can see how my daily actions connect to what I truly care about.

4. Morning Affirmations

Every morning, I begin my day with a short affirmation practice. I look at my values and say things like, “Today, I will act with honesty” or “I will reach out to connect with others.” This helps start my day on a positive note and keeps me focused on my values.

5. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a great tool for staying focused and aware of whether my actions match my values. I often meditate, paying attention to my breath and checking in on how I feel. This awareness helps me make changes throughout the day if I feel like I'm straying from my core values.

6. Get Feedback

I often ask trusted friends or mentors for help in seeing how I’m doing with my values. Sometimes, we don’t notice our own behaviors, and a fresh perspective can help us see where we might be going off track. These chats can give me new ideas and keep me on the right path.

7. Celebrate Small Wins

Each time I do something that reflects my values, I celebrate that moment, no matter how small! It could be treating myself to dessert or simply taking a moment to feel grateful. Celebrating these times strengthens my connection to my values and makes it enjoyable.

Bringing these habits into my life has helped me not only figure out my core values but also live by them each day. I feel more in tune with what truly makes me happy. Honestly, putting in this effort is so worth it!
