Which Everyday Japanese Phrases Are Key for Basic Communication?

If you're starting to learn Japanese, knowing some useful phrases can make it easier to talk with others. Here are some phrases that I think are really helpful:

Basic Greetings

  • こんにちは (Konnichiwa) - Hello
  • おはようございます (Ohayou gozaimasu) - Good morning
  • こんばんは (Konbanwa) - Good evening
  • おやすみなさい (Oyasuminasai) - Good night

Essential Expressions

  • ありがとう (Arigatou) - Thank you
  • すみません (Sumimasen) - Excuse me / I'm sorry
